Highly Secure 1:1 and Group Messaging for Coach-Client Trust - Implemented & Now Testing
We're Testing Something Different: Messaging We Can't Read
Over the past many weeks, we've been hearing the same thing in our coach interviews: security matters. Not just password protection... real security for the deeply personal conversations that happen in coaching.
When you're helping someone navigate grief after losing a spouse, discussing salary negotiations for a career pivot, or working through health challenges during a major life transition, your clients need to know their words are truly private.
Here's what we're testing right now:
We're implementing something called Proxy Re-Encryption (PRE) for all coach-client messaging in Sidkik. It's MIT-level security technology, and here's why it matters:
Most platforms work like this:
- You log in securely ✓
- Your messages are encrypted in transit ✓
- But the company CAN technically read your messages if they wanted to ✗
PRE works differently:
- Messages are encrypted end-to-end
- Only you and your client have the keys to read them
- We (Sidkik) can enable the secure connection, but we literally cannot decrypt and read your conversations
- Even if someone accessed our servers, your messages would be meaningless encrypted data
Think of it this way: we're the postal service that delivers sealed envelopes, but we don't have a key to open them. Ever.
Why this came up in interviews:
Several coaches mentioned working with clients dealing with:
- Health-related transitions where HIPAA-level privacy matters
- Sensitive career situations (reporting harassment, negotiating severance)
- Grief and loss
- Divorce and custody discussions
- Financial stress and debt
In these spaces, trust isn't just important... it's everything. Your clients need to know that what they share stays between you and them. Period.
Where we are now:
We're actively testing PRE messaging in our development environment. It adds complexity on our end (which is fine - that's our job), but for you and your clients, it works exactly like you'd expect: simple, secure messaging that just works.
If you're curious about the technical details, search for "proxy re-encryption" or check out resources from Stanford or MIT's cryptography research. But the bottom line is: we're building security that matches the trust your clients place in you.
Your input matters here:
As we build this out, we'd love to hear:
- What secure messaging features are most important to you?
- What would make your clients feel most confident using secure messaging?
- Are there specific use cases we should be thinking about?
Drop your thoughts in the comments.
This is exactly why we're building Sidkik WITH life transition coaches, not just FOR them.
